Adams
began life as a family farm, selling milk and butter in the
locality.
In the 1920's, supply widened, a factory was built in Leek
and over the next 50 years 'Adams' butter was a household
brand in the UK.
From the early 1970's the Irish Dairy Board began to acquire
shares in the Adams business until outright purchase followed
at the end of the decade.
Adams then became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Irish Dairy
Board (IDB) and concentrated the upon distribution of powdered
dairy ingredients; leaving retail butter to the Kerrygold
brand.
